Judge not!

Do you ever catch yourself judging someone or even yourself? Do you make promises to improve and realize that you are not better than someone else and neither are they to you? Do you also despise it when someone judges you based on trivial things or misconceptions about your personality?

Well my darling that is life! šŸ˜‚ A friend of mine sank into my brain Matthew 7:1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.“(NIV). I know it was always a joke but I appreciated that because it is a reminder on my behaviour.

As humans, when things are not in alignment with our belief system, we get defensive and in being defensive we limit how openminded we can get. Whenever I catch myself condemning even in the most subtle ways, I correct it by apologizing or reminding myself that I am not better than the person.

A quick story – one day I was in church kneeling right in front of the alter and in front of me was a lady being ‘dramatic’ in my opinion because she was expressing herself and demonstrating her emotions. In that moment, I felt above her because in my shallow mind, she must be going through a lot for her to be so expressive. How stupid of me – bear in mind, I also get expressive too sometimes when I pray so why should I judge someone else for doing just that? Was it because the person was not hiding to pray or the person was intimidating me? You know at times, we judge because we are intimidated so we become judgmental.

Anyways, while judging the lady, I had deviated from my own prayer and in that moment, I had a leading reminding me that I was judging. The lady is expressive so what? Her expressing herself does not automatically mean she is going through a lot. It could be anything and she may be better than me in some aspects so rather than judging or looking down at her because of her actions, I should have appreciated or asked GOD to hear her plea.

So darling, when next you catch yourself judging, condemning or looking down on someone, put yourself in their shoes. Would you want to be treated the way you have or are about to treat them? We are human but let us also be humane.

With genuine smiles,

Her Splendid Thoughts
