I’ve been having random chats with my parents lately, and I’m amazed by the memories they’ve shared—stories from their childhood and early years before I was born.
It reminded me how easy it is to fix our judgment on people based solely on how we know them now, rather than giving room to understand them through their lived experiences.
A Moment with My Dad
I recently started swimming, and my dad asked about my progress.
While I complained about the difficulty, he encouraged me and shared that he’s been swimming since the 1960s.
That moment, along with my mum reminiscing about her childhood the day before, reminded me of something important:
Let People Be Who They Really Are
We must give room for people to be who they truly are.
To understand why they are the way they are.
To listen to the stories that shaped them.
This applies to partners, friends, colleagues, and counterparts.
Everyone carries a history.
And sometimes, all it takes is a conversation to uncover it.
With cute and childish smiles,
