I’ve learned over time that I’m quite an indecisive person and while I know that’s considered a flaw or a weakness, I’m also learning how to become more decisive. Most of the time, I’ve realized that when I haven’t given myself a moment to pause and think, I lean on others to guide my choices. Sometimes I like their decisions; other times, not so much.
What I’m learning is this: If someone recommends something and it doesn’t sit 100% right with me, I don’t have to take that recommendation. It’s perfectly fine to ask people for advice, but it doesn’t mean I have to go with their final say every single time.
So, here’s a little story: I recently had the urge to get my nails done after waiting a few months due to a little injury. When I finally got to the salon, I almost asked the nail tech to just pick something for me. But then I remembered: this particular nail tech didn’t usually have a lot of suggestions. So, I looked around, checked Pinterest, and came up with a couple of options: either something milky and off-white or a deep burgundy.
When we started, I asked her what she’d recommend, and she suggested burgundy. I agreed and let her go ahead. The process was going fine, but halfway through, I realized I wasn’t completely sure if burgundy was really what I wanted. So I asked to see the color chart again.
After looking at the endless options and sensing the nail tech’s patience wearing thin, I decided to mix it up a little bit: burgundy nails with a French tip. It wasn’t my original idea, but it was a decision that felt right for me.
And when I left the salon, I just laughed at myself, realizing that indecision had once again played its little jokes on me. But that’s okay. I’m learning that it’s fine to take my time and that I can become decisive, step by step, in my own way.
With a decisive smile ,
